I'm Tricia Knight. My maiden (and art) name is Barton. It has "art" right smack dab in the middle of it and because I've wanted to be an artist my entire life, it felt appropriate to keep this as my "work" name.

My signature on each piece (BARtON) is always written in all caps, with the exception of the “t”. I do this because I am a believer and it’s important to me to remind myself that my talents are God-given. I do my best to keep my faith at the center of everything I do, including my artwork, which inspired the way I sign my pieces.

Art has been a part of my life from a very young age. I can actually remember sitting at my kitchen table in Atlanta at the age of 7. I was painting a picture of the "Lone Cypress" in Pebble Beach, CA — a Christmas gift for my grandparents that year. My father urged me to start my painting over and over until I felt confident with the base of the tree - I remember questioning why the "first draft" wasn't going to be the final draft, but as soon as I put brush to paper on my 8th or 9th piece of watercolor paper, I knew that was the winning piece. It was in that moment that I knew art (and painting in particular) was something I wanted to work at and I was determined to teach myself.

Aside from a few mandatory grade school classes, I am a fully self-taught artist. I am motivated by exploring different mediums and figuring out new techniques. My portfolio consists of #2 pencil sketches to oils, acrylics and watercolors. I am constantly inspired by other artists and am willing to step out of my comfort zone to take on the new challenges that the changing art world provides.

I currently live in Mount Pleasant, SC with my husband (Taylor), our three sons (Boz, Otis & Rad) and our two rescue dogs (Reed & Bandit).

1 Peter 4:10-11

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in it’s various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
